Chandru passed away on sunday the 8th of may '11

Our beloved friend Chandrashekhar passed away on sunday the 8th of May '11 at 8.45pm from complications arising from his last round of chemotherapy. While fighting this disease is a lonely battle any help goes a long way in easing the pain. We thank you for all the help and your prayers and good wishes. Without your help and support it would have been a lot harder for Chandru and his family.

Even after three rounds of chemotherapy, with barely two months to go for his planned bone marrow transplant, he was keen on getting back to work and making a mark in this world.

Lung Infection !!

Funds is what we have been getting from you all till date, for which we are grateful at every phase. At this stage we all ask you a little more which is very much needed, and its nothing but 'Prayers'.
Chandru was admitted to hospital last week with a minor infection due to the low blood count. Yesterday on 04-May a complete diagnosis revealed that Chandru would need special care to come out of this minor glitch. He has been under observation in ICU. As per the doctor, he should show a sign of improvement within next 48 hours.
Hence we request once again to kindly spread the word and pray for his quick recovery.

We would keep you posted about his recovery whenever possible.

Stepping towards BMT!!

Dear all,
Thank you for spending few precious moments of yours to read this blog. I hope, Further post from now will definitely make you all feel happy.

The much awaited HLA reports are out and the result id REPORTS MATCH!!! its a wonder that in the very first attempt we got donor. The donor is none other than Chandru's Brother, Raj :) as the reports were disclosed, the next course of action was discussed. the Dr said that we need to wait for nearly 5months as there were other patients waiting for the treatment. but, our friends didn give up, determined to get Chandru treated at the earliest they tried all ways to get appointment at the earliest and they did it. Dr gave the tentative treatment date to be in the mnth of May or June.

Friday, Chandru met doctor at CMC, Vellore as scheduled. A good News is that, Dr has said that Chandru's treatment may take just 15 days if his body responds to very well to treatment and he can straight away go to work after receiving the treatment. at the worst the treatment would take 45 days to 60 days.

Accroding to Dr, the new estimation would be 12lakh for treatment and 4 - 5 lac for maintainance.

4th Cycle of Chemotherapy

The visit to CMC vellore for clearance to Stem Cell Replacement was fairly successful.
Dr. Abey from the hematology department has studied Chandrashekar's condition.
We have given samples of blood for HLA matching to be re-done at CMC hospital.
Further to add, Dr.Abey has referred his case to the senior doctor by name Dr.Vikram Mathews who is suppose to suggest the future course of treatment on 25th of this month.
Meanwhile Chandrashekar has been advised to continue with the chemotherapy treatment, and hence would be admitted to hospital (Bangalore Institute Of Oncology) on 22nd to begin with the 4th cycle of chemotherapy.

Anyone who would like to meet him - Please do contact +91-9901508032

Thank You.

Allogenic Bone Marrow Transplant - Stem Cell replacement

Though chemotherapy is the suggested treatment for leaukemia which would get detected in patients during the early stages, his was the case where the disease was detected much later than what could have been a mild & minor case. We could go ahead and continue the chemotherapy treatment for the next 18 months and make the cancerous cells dormant, but as told by the senior doctors and several knowlege banks over the net, the treated cancer cells could become active anytime after the successful completion of the chemotherpy. And this is something that could really happen if the age of the person is >15.The chemotherpy is believed to have a higher success rate in adolescent / padeatric patients.Having the age factor against him, he has the higher risk of being under the effects of cancer again or rather in the medical terms being "Relapsed".

The Best possible solution in this scenario is to get a Allogenic Bone Marrow Transplant (Stem Cell replacement) done. And hence we have decided to go ahead with the same for ChandraShekar.A normal Hallogenic Bone Marrow transplant done from an un-related donor would be costing 50-60 lakhs. And if we are lucky enough to get anyone among his relatives whose HLA( Human Leukocyte Antigen) matches with his, then the cost would be to 20 lakhs.

Blood samples have been given at the Manipal Hospital for HLA matching of brother (Rajshekhar). We are just keeping our fingers crossed and are expecting the blood HLA to match with that of his brother's.

After III - Cycle of Chemo

We sincerely apologize for not updating the happenings for a long time untill now about the treatment that chandrashekar is undergoing with. "Every cloud has a silver lining" saying this quote at first, i would like to inform you all that ChandraShekar has completed the 3rd round of Chemotherapy cycle. The latest Bone Marrow analysis report says everything positive about the internal severity of the disease, to be more specific the Philadelphia chromosome (Ph+) which was very active during the initial detection & treatment process has become negative and is passive in its existence in his body now.

We assure to update you with the further treatment on a regular basis.
